The factory is situated in the heart of Mid Wales in the small farming village of Leighton. Set in the centre of some of the most scenic countryside in Powys, Cooper engineering enjoys the tranquillity of its setting directly opposite a small lake which now forms part of a nature reserve. The company is family run, led by company director and founder Colin Cooper. Originally named Newtown Precision Engineering, it was founded in 1997, and has established itself as a very successful local business. Customers vary from local catering giant Sidolis, to international automotive and airspace industries. Cooper Engineering is proud to have produced work for Aston Martin, Bentley, Ford, Jaguar, JCB, Landrover, McClaren, Nissan, Prodrive and Proton. The company has also provided products for the fire brigade and safety industry.

Cooper Engineering has won four prestigious awards, including the Mid Wales Maufacturing Ideas Challenge (twice) and the WDA Young Entrepreneur. Since its foundation, Colin has also developed a number of innovative projects, including ‘Spinlock’ and ‘Cooldrill’. The business continues to develop projects such as this, its current being the development of concrete reinforced by the use of un-recyclable plastic. Cooldrill

One of Coopers Engineering most successful projects has been the innovation of the ‘Cooldrill’ and is now manufacturing Cooldrill to order, offering a simple and cost effective route to reducing costs. Cooldrill offers a fast set up and tool change time, reducing cycle times. It cuts the breakage of tools and tool wear, giving a longer expected ‘tool life’. Cooldrill has a range from 3mm to 16mm using double ER collets in a 40mm dia turret bore.
